If you're using a Bluetooth headset and microphone, disabling hands-free telephony can help. To disable the hands-free telephony, go to Control Panel, then Hardware and Sound and finally Devices and Printers. From the list, right click on your bluetooth headphones, go to Properties, then the Services tab, and disable Hands-free telephony.
You may also have to disable Bluetooth Audio Gateway. To disable the Bluetooth Audio Gateway, type Services on your Windows Search. Go there, locate the service called Bluetooth Audio Gateway, right click it and stop it. Then, go into Properties for the same service and switch Startup type to Disabled.
Some headsets have a 'Game' and 'Chat' mode that are both detected by Windows. For some players, doing the following has helped:
- Right click on your volume button on the bottom right of the taskbar
- Click on 'Sounds' and this should open a new Window. Go to the 'Playback' tab
- You may see two different sound sources. The name will change depending on your headset, but for example it could be something like 'Arctis Pro Wireless Chat' and 'Arctis Pro Wireless Game'.
- Right click on the 'Game' version and set it to default device
- Right click on the 'Chat' version and set it to default communications device
- In game, pressing Windows + G will open up the game bar, and you can select audio devices that way also, which has helped some users.
- If your audio device uses its own software, such as SteelSeries GG for example, also make sure that is set up correctly
On that same screen, you may want to try disabling any device you are not actively using that could interfere with your headphones, such as any other output devices.
If your microphone is Bluetooth too, you reduced audio quality may be the result of Bluetooth trying to conserve bandwidth used. The only way to avoid this would be to acquire a non-Bluetooth microhpone.
See this page for more information on Bluetooth sound quality.
